Currently our living-dining area is already painted in the same cream colour and we've already got the sofa, albeit both are in a slightly darker tone to that in the googled picture. Our curtain is different though. I was gutted that we couldn't find a fabric with red accents when we shopped at Baagus. So I settled for fabric in a lighter shade of brown with gold undertones and a dark brown border and embroidery. What we need to get next are the dining table and a light-coloured floor rug. Then we're just left with getting cushions in cream with red highlights and wall hangings. I also need to brighten the room more so I'll add a huge mirror in the dining area to reflect the light.
I so can't wait to get the living and dining rooms done. I wish I could just concentrate on furnishing the house and not have to work. But that will not happen unless money grew on trees. So, I'll update more when I'm finally done.
Now here we are, six months after the yard renovations. Tomorrow, insyaAllah, we are going to finalise the kitchen cabinet and master bedroom wardrobe. This will be our biggest investment for the interior of our home. Hopefully the cabinets and wardrobe can be installed by the end of this month. That will mark the last of the major renovation/furnishing work. Then we can finally drape the window dressings we chose a few weeks ago, the kitchen appliances can also be installed and the furnitures can be delivered. But before that, some time in the next few weeks, we've got to clean and scrub the house from top to bottom. So, let's get our cleaning gear and start scrubbing!
P/S: I'm so in love with the black fan we chose for the living room.
It turned out that our kitchen designed required us to get the kitchen sink repositioned. After a few weeks being busy with work, we only managed to get a contractor to do the repositioning at the end of April. We also asked the contractor, Mr L, to put up a brick wall at part of our front fence and to paint the living room and all bedrooms. The decision to paint the walls was not in our initial plans but I felt that a white house looked kind off boring.
So, two weeks ago, I finally made up my mind on the colour scheme and we went to buy the paints. We decided to go with Ni*ppon Odour*less in Classic Silk (brownish beige) for the living plus dining room, Pink Camellias for Maisarah's room (this was her choice), Blue Trace for the guest room and Blue Trace with Parlour Blue feature wall for our room.
Anyway, the paint work is done. The front fence brick wall is up but our kitchen sink is yet to be repositioned correctly due to some miscommunication. I'm hoping it will be done by next Wednesday when our lights and fans are to be delivered and installed. Yup, we've bought our lights/fans at Ten*Gro Lighting in Pu*chong last Wednesday and we got 30% discount on all lights from the booking we made during the Home*dec Fair we attended last April.
And today, our master bathroom shower screen was installed. This was also bought during Home*dec. I'm really loving the shower screen! We also have got our windows measured so we'll be dropping by Baa*gus Curtains in Cheras soon to finalise our window dressings. Our last major work to be done is the kitchen. I'm now aiming for the cabinets and our wardrobe to be installed by mid July. Then we just need to get all furnitures and appliances in before we can move in. It sounds simple but you'll never know what else can happen.
So, I'm praying hard that there will be no more delays. Anyway, above are pictures of my shower screen (please ignore the dirt in the bathroom), a snapshot of the Pink Camellia walls in Maisarah's room and our Parlour Blue feature wall. I'll update more once our lights are installed. I can't wait for next Wednesday!
We've got the same concept of vouchers with discount on curtains which we got in the Perfect Livin' fair we went to earlier this month. So, roughly we're 80% done with our kitchen (design to be finalised next wednesday, all appliances bought except for microwave). All bathrooms are also settled except for lightings. The living room is almost done. We just need to settle the dining room and bedroom furnitures.
Before we finalise the curtains, I'm planning to paint the living, dining and bedrooms. So, next week I'm going to ask Shah to take me to the paint shop to buy paint. Hopefully, we'll be able to sort everything out before end of June when the appliances and furnitures are scheduled to be delivered.
Anyway, after spending a fruitful one and a half hour at Homedec, Maisarah asked for lunch at KFC. Then, she had fun playing on the Barney car as seen in the picture above. Soon after her ride in Barney's car, we headed home.
Once she's got all the measurements, then the designing can start. However, she would need the measurement of the appliances that will be fitted to our cabinets - the cooker hob, oven and hood. The company that will do our kitchen supplies Te*ka, Fa*gor and Rin*nai appliances. After reading through the forums, many said that we should go with Asian manufacturers since our Asian cooking uses lots of oil. So, I was leaning towards Rin*nai and Fu*jioh. My mom uses Fu*jioh and also based on reviews on the net Fu*jioh hoods has higher oil absorption efficiency than Rin*nai.
Equipped with all these info, Shah and I headed to the Modern Ho*me and Life*style Fair at Mid*valley today. Alhamdulillah Fu*jioh had a booth there and there were a few reasonable offers. Suffice to say, I was already set on getting a Fu*jioh hood and hob. We also got an oven to go with it at a price that I had budgeted for. So, we've now got the measurements for our appliances to be given to Ms S.
Hopefully we'll be able to finalise the kitchen design in the next two weeks. Then we've got to get the Fu*jioh people to come measure the ducting for the hood and hack a hole on the back wall of the kitchen where the ducting ends. Once the hole is done, then only can the cabinets be fixed and finally the appliances.
So, maybe by early or mid May will the kitchen be ready. In the mean time, we'll be shopping for lights. Just before the cabinets are in and the lights are all fixed, we've got to do the first round of cleaning for the whole house. The proper clening will be done just before we move in the furniture.
Oh, and it looks like the developer is almost done with our complaints. Maybe next week they'll call us up to check the repairs. I've also put a picture of our grille and the simple cornice we've got on the ceiling. So, our main mission at the Mid*valley fair was accomplished. Next week there'll be a Per*fect Li*ving Fair at PWTC and it looks like that fair will be big. So, we'll be there next Saturday to look for lights, furniture and maybe an alarm system for our house if budget permits. We must always ensure safety comes first!
We went to Ki*an Classic's showroom there because I wanted to see if their '3 Rooms and 2 Halls' package (3R+2H) was still on. This package includes kitchen cabinets, a TV stand for the living room and 3 built-in wardrobes for the room. They also had a newer package called Golden 2+1 (G2+1) which comprised of kitchen cabinets and 2 wardrobes.
Unfortunately, the designer we met previously wasn't there as her shift starts at 1pm. So Shah and I went to I*kea to kill time and get some decor ideas as well as survey furnitures. While browsing, we decided that the 3R+2H package was too much. Our main aim was to get the kitchen done and the wardrobes for our room. So went we met Miss S at Ki*an Classsic's after lunch, we asked if we could take the G2+1 package but have both wardrobes in our master bedroom. How happy were we when she said that was ok. You see even with both the 8 feet and 6 feet wardrobes in our room we still had to add an extra 2 feet of wardrobe space.
So, suffice to say, we have placed the booking for a high gloss kitchen cabinet with additional solid surface worktop and 10 foot built-in wardrobe. Next week Ms S will come over to our house to take measurement and then do the 3-d drawings. Once we agree with the plans, it would take 3 weeks for the cabinets and wardrobe to be installed. InsyaAllah, we hope to get these done by end of May. But we can't install them until the developer has completed work on our complaints which we submitted more than 2 weeks ago. I've got to give them a call and chase them on this. But our complaint were a quite long list as we have some leaks on the ceiling and cracks high up the walls.
Anyway, with the kitchen almost sorted, we'll next move on to the next phase of lighting up the house.
P/S: I've got to take pictures of the house the next time we go.
So, last Friday, 26th February, Mr Peter delivered his promise. The grille for our house is already fixed. The back fence was up much much earlier, about a week after we finalised the deal with Mr Peter. We're very happy with the design of our grille and very satisfied with Mr Peter. Now that we are familiar with him and his workmanship, we have decided to employ him again to do the wiring works on the house and maybe the plaster cornice for the living and dining rooms. Tomorrow we're meeting him to finalise the costs. He mentioned that wiring for additional socket points will cost RM80 while lighting points which require hacking of the wall costs RM100.
We're now into the second phase of the renovation works. Mr Peter estimates that the wiring can be done in a week, so if we add the cornicing work it may take another extra week. In total, about two weeks to complete Phase Two.Phase Three will involve finalising the kitchen and getting the lights and fans. So, I've got the next two weeks to go around kitchen showrooms and get quotations. Shah, lets take leave on one of these days? Or do we need to take more days off from work?
