Grow Old With You...

Last night Shah and I watched 'The Weding singer' on TV. I relly like the movie coz it's so sweet. I really like the scene on the airplane when Adam Sandler is telling the other passengers in first-class that he's going to Las Vegas to confess his love to Drew Berrymore and stop her from marrying her no-good fiance. And I also like the part when he sings the song 'Grow Old WIth You' to Drew Berrymore on the plane. I think the lyrics to that song is very simple but very meaningful. Anyway, I've got the lyrics of that particular song below for you guys to read.

Grow Old With You

[Billy Idol (Speaking):]

Good afternoon everyone. We're flying at 26,000 feet, moving up to thirty thousand feet, and then we've got clear skies all the way to Las Vegas, and right now we're bringing you some in-flight entertainment. One of our first-class passengers has written a song inspired by one of our coach passenger, and since we let our first-class passengers do pretty much whatever they want, here he is.

[Robbie Hart (Singing):]
I wanna make you smile whenever you're sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you

I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

I'll miss you
Kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold

Need you
Feed you
Even let ya hold the remote control

So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if you've had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you

I wish Shah would sing me that song. But Actually he doesn't have to coz he's done most of the things stated in the song. He takes care of me when I'm sick and he certainly does wash the dishes in our kitchen sink. Most improtantly Shah always make me smile when I'm sad and that's the best thing that he has done for me. I pray that he'll always want to grow old with me.

My helpful hubby

The past few days Shah has been very helpful with the housework. When I arrive home from work I find that Shah has washed all the pots and pans and all the ingredients for cooking dinner has been prepared by him. Actually, Shah has always been helpful with housework especially cooking. However, lately, since his work is almost finished, he has been extra helpful. I'm very grateful to have such a kind and loving husband. I just hope he knows how much I love him. And I hope I am able to always be a good wife to him by helping and supporting him in every way possible. I know sometimes I can be a pain but Shah has always been very patient with me.

I believe (and this also comes from my experience) that relationships and marriage are things you have to work at in order to make it successful. Nothing comes easily and there will always be hardship, trials and tribulations. Couples will experince rifts and a marriage/relationship which is smooth sailing all the time is unhealthy. Always remember why you fell in love with your other half and all should be fine.

I hope I can keep that all in mind...

Al Quran, science and Arabic

Last Saturday Shah and I went to a talk regarding how we can strengthen our faith in Islam through science and also how science and revelations in the Quran agree and justify each other. The talk was very interesting as the speaker gave verses from the Quran which when translated gave agreed with science realting to the movement of the sun on its orbit which revolves around the centre of the Milky Way. He also mentioned verses in the Quran which agrees with scientific finding on the human fertilization process, sex determination and the human bodies defence mechanism. I was really interested to learn more but the talk had to be cut short since the speaker arrived an hour late than the scheduled start and the lecture theatre was only booked till 5pm. The Nottingham Postgrad society then said that the talk was going to be continued at the Penghulu's house but Shah and I decided not to go there coz it was too far away. It was a bit of a shame coz I really wanted to hear more.

Anyhow, the talk mainly highligted the need for all Muslims to understand the translation of the Quran and that a non-Arabic speaking Muslim needs to learn the Arabic language in order to fully grasp the meaning of the verses in the Quran. I actually want to learn Arabic and I really hope I'll be able to do so after I've finished my PhD. I got an email from the Islamic Society at Uni of Nottingham about a 2 month Arabic Language Course which I'm really interested in joining. However, I don't think I'll be able to undrtke it due to the ver increasing workload that I currently have and the ever looming December thesis submission deadline that I have. Even so learing Arabic will always be a high priority in my to do list which I'll certainly have to accomplish God willingly.

Time flies yet again...

I so knackered. I had my usual weekly meeting and I asked my supervisor how long would it take me to complete my PhD. He said that if I submit my thesis by Christmas time this year then I should be able to have my viva some time in March or April next year and hopefully be done by 1st of May. So I have to work hard now to make sure I submit my thesisi by Christmas time. That means I have to start handing my thesis chapters to my supervisor for review by early November. So, to those of you who are reading this, please pray that everything will work out fine and that InsyaAllah I get to submit my thesis by end of this year. Anyway, I hope I get to solve my simulations problem soon so that I can fully concentrate on my thesis writing.

Today most of the 1st year international students ave starteds to arrive at the university. So from this week onwards the university will start to get busy again. I will have to try and steer away from the student union building and the banks coz most of the new student will be crowding those areas to set up their new bank accounts and do other official registering stuff. But then I would like to go to the Freshers Fayre just to get all the free stuff that they give out. Shah mentioned to me just now that he wants to go and have a look at the International Week events (happening this week) coz he wants to reminisce and relive his first week in the UK which happened almost 6 years ago. I would also like to see what activities are laid out for the week coz I didn't go to IC's International Week during my st year since I got infected with chicken pox from my brother just after I arrived in London. Gosh! How time flies! All those seem like it happened just a couple of years ago but actually it has been 6 years.

I haven't been an active blogger these days and especially last week. Last Saturday Shah and I went to ASDA to get our household groceries. Then when we got home from ASDA, we had some lunch and prayed before going out again to the city. Just went window shopping, had a drink at Starbucks and then went to collect my winter coat from the dry cleaners. The weather these past 2 days have been quite chilly. I had to wear my long cardigan today coz the wind was quite strong. I even wore it all day while working in the office. I guess Autumn has arrived and I have to dig out my chunky sweaters from the back of my closet. But I think I should stop moaning about the weather coz this might be my last ever winter here. I hope I'll get to see some snow in Nottingham this year...before I go back to Msia.

Anyway, back to my story about the weekend. On Sunday we had Didi, Alin, Aryss, Izaty and Lisa over for late lunch and early dinner. I cooked Nasi Tomato, ayam masak merah and kambing masak hitam with some salad and kuih cara. It was fun having them around. We, well actually they, played games on Shah's PS2 and also we listened to the Malay+Indon songs whcih Shah and I got from Dmat. Didi and Alin were really excited to browse thru the 1000++ songs that we have and we promised Didi we'd bring the songs on my portable hard drive to her house next weekend so she can transfer them to her laptop. I have to admit I don't know most of the Malay songs coz while I grew up I didn't listen to the radio much. Even when we were in the car, my mum or my aunty would usually put on a cassette of Gloria Estefan, Billy Ocean, Whitney Houston or Dionne Warwick. So we didn't listen to Malay songs that much except for maybe Sheila Majid and Francesca Peters coz my mum likes their songs. However, I do know some songs like Ramlah Ram's Kau Kunci Citaku and Zaiton Sameon's Menaruh Harapan only coz I heard them on TV shows like Hiburan Minggu Ini or Muzik Muzik. It always the cheesy Malay songs which I remember most.

Well, I think I've babbled too much today but I had to keep you up-to-date on what has been happening in my life. Last Sunday we also got a first hand experince on how the lack of communication between the undergrads and postgrads here in Nottingham can cause some miss understandings but I'll have to leave that to another day. As I said earlier...I'm knackered.

Just relaxing

Friday nite and I'm not doing much. Just relaxing, surfing the net and doing some quizzes at Quizilla.com qhich have some cool pics accompanying quiz results. Nothing much to write really coz nothing interesting has happened. There' snothing good on TV I really hate weekend TV programmes coz it's sooooo boring. I think these TV people know that many Brits go out clubbing or to the pub on friday and weekend notes so they don't bother to show anything good at all. Wish we had borrowed a DVD but Beeston is so far. If only the DVD rental shop was next door. Yeah...you wish!!

Tomorrow Shah and I have to go to ASDA to get fornightly supply of groceries. Some of our friends are coming for lunch on Sunday so I've got to get things to cook. I've also got to celan the house coz it's so messy. I am quite lazy at cleaning the house but once I start cleaning I can't stop until everything is spick and span. I kinda become like Monica in Friends only not that extreme (I hope).

I'm starting to feel sleepy so I think I'll stop now. Night night...

Frustrated...

I don't want to keep writing about my work but I'm so really frustrated with my C++ program. I'm starting to fell sick and tired of it but I can't stop now. I've worked my ass off these past 2yrs and 10months and I just don't want to throw it all out the window. Everyday I keep praying that today both Shah and I will be able to solve our work problems and that our work will run smoothly from now onwards but it hasn't happened yet. Just have to keep trying and keep praying. Tak guna tawakkal tanpa usaha kan?...But sometimes I get so fed up of trying. I know I'm not supposed to keep on wallowing in my frustrations...instead I must think positive and hope for the best. It's just that you can only be positive to an extent. Whenever other people come to me with their frustrations I tell them not to give, to keep trying, praying and that one day, God willing, the problem will be resolved. However, when it happens to me I can't seem to take my own advise.

Even so, I will just have to keep on putting my foot one in front of the other every morning to the office to keep on trying. Hopefully, insyaAllah, one day I'll find the solution and my work will get better. But make it sooner rather than later, please!

Computer games I like

Yesterday was spent by going shopping to find Shah some new clothes. He got himself 6 new short sleeve shirts and a tailored trousers for him to wear for formal occasions. I really liked the shirts that Shah bought and I hope he wears them often coz they make him look smart and handsome. When we got home from shopping, Shah decided to shave off his moustache and his beard. The result made me laugh a bit coz it made him look somewhat like he did when we were back in high school. Now I just need to get used to his new look. According to Shah, his moustache makes him look older and I do agree that now, without it, he does look younger. Anyway, as long as he's happy he can do anything he wants.

Today we didn't do anything much. We watched TV and I played Sokoban. My mother first got me hooked on Sokoban when I was younger. Basically, the game involves you directing the character to push the boxes around the obstacles to direct them into the places they're supposed to be arranged at. The game really tests your brain coz you have to manouvre the boxes around the obstavles or else they'll get stuck. These days all these older games are now available to play online and I'm really loving it. Last time I found Pacman and Tetris. Now it's Sokoban. I even found Digger to play online. When I was in primary school I used to play Digger during my school's computer club meetings. I used to be quite good at it but now I'm really rubbish. Just need to practise more I guess Blushy 2! (read: more time playing and less time doing other things..just kidding Abg!)

Ok..Shah wants to eat. I didn't cook spaghetti bolognese last Friday nite coz we decided to order in some chicken wraps. So instead I cooked spaghetti tonite. Anyway, I've got to stop now. Will write again soon.

Weekend again...

I'm at the office and thought I'll drop in a few lines while my simulation is running albeit at a rather slower pace than usual. Not actually in a working mood since it's Friday afternoon. The show that I wanted to watch last nite ('The Hamburg Cell', see previous day's post) was quite interesting. It wasn't that biased, i.e. it didn't just blame Muslim extremist, and it pointed out facts about how the US goverment had intelligence information about the September 11 attack even before it happened but they didn't analyse those information until after the tragedy happened. So the US people should blame their goverment for the tragedy. I think they should show this drama to the US people to open up their eyes and mind from all the deception fed to them by their goverment.

Anyway enough about that coz I'm not one who likes to talk much about political issues vene though I have my own opinions regarding those matters.

It already Friday and it look as if the weekend weather will be nice and sunny. Hope the forecast is true. This week has surely gone by quickly since Monday was a holiday. I've been a bit stressed this week coz my colleague and I have found some errors in the simulation code which has made me rather annoyed as this means that I might have to re-run some (maybe even all) of my simulations! That's why the past few posts this week have been rather short. Shah called me a few minutes ago and he's gone home. It's been a hot day and his office doesn't have any air conditioning unit. I'm sure he's reached home now and has the fan and PS2 GTA Vice City game switched on. I might be heading home soon. Probably around 5pm or 5:30pm.

Tonite we'll be having spaghetti bolognese but I don't think there is anything good to watch on TV. I don't know what we'll do to occupy ourselves. Well, actually I wont know what to do..Shah would certainly be playing on his PS2.
Ok..I think I'll sign off now. Get some work done and then get ready to go home. Bye!!

What the TV says...

I don't have much time to write coz I wan to watch a drama on Channel 4 entitled 'The Hamburg Cell' or something like that. It's about the September 11 terrorist plot and I'm just curious how they've tackled the issue. Of course Islamic terrorism is central to the plot but I just wonder how far they've take it. As a Muslim, I strongly think that we cannot truely believe everything that is shown and said on TV but it doesn't hurt to know what their saying so if someone brings it up in conversation weare able to give our views.

The show is about to start so I'll probably write more tomorrow..

Last weekend...

I'm so frustrated with my work. Programming is really getting on my nerves so every time I get back from work I feel so drained and have no mood to do anything else. That's why I haven't been posting anything in this blog.

Last Sunday afternoon we helped Didi, Aryss, Izat and Alin to move. Then on Bank Holiday Monday Auntie Nariman, Uncle Zainal and Taufiq came to stay for one night. It's been a while since I met them. But I didn't do any work last weekend so now I've got to work hard.

Actually I don't know what else to write. My brain is frozen. I promise I'll write again soon.
