The week summarised

A bit on what's happened...

Snow fall..finally

After much hype about the acrtic freeze and heavy snowfall across east and south UK, the snow finally did settled in Nottingham last Wednesday. As usual, Shah and I went out early to snap some pics even though the snow that settled was just around an inch of the ground. Most of the pics have been uploaded on our fotopage so I've only put 1 photo here. The first pic is how the field next to my office building looks. The snow-covered pic is one of my favourite coz it shows the daffodils shoots which contradicts the snow. Plus if you look closely you'll be able to see the trail Shah and I left when we crossed the field. Even though the snow fall vanished after about 2 hrs since the pictures were taken I still enjoyed the snow. I wished it would snow more but don't think it will happen. So will just have to make do with the memories and pictures we have.

Islamic Awareness Week

Last week was also the Islamic Awareness week at the Uni. There were many talks but I only attended one about Hijab and the misconceptions surrounding this issue. Ever since the Hijab ban was started in France (spreading thru to Belgium, Germany and many more Europe countries), this issue really needs our attention here in the UK coz it happen here too. The speaker was one of the corodinators of the Assembly on the Protction of Hijab. She advised us all to visit ww.prohijab.net and send a letter to as many European MP's (MEP's) as possible coz they need to collect around 300+ MP's to agree to their campaign on allowing people in Europe to express their religious ways. So if any of you reading this are in Europe do help out. I myself think that hijab is not a sign of oppression. As an woman wearing the hijab I never find it restricting me freedom unless I'm faced with people who don't undrstand what the hijab means. The hijab when worn properly protects women from being objectified by men. It doesn't opress us in any way because Islam believes that women are equal to men ever since Prophet Muhammad SAW started to spread Islam more than 1400 years ago. Not like here in the west when women were only considered as citizens of England sometime in 1800's and were only allowed to vote in 1921. Now that is oppression!

Nottingham Uni Malaysian Nite

Yesterday Shah and I went to the Malaysian Nite. It was OK I guess. We went to the dinner and play. The food was delicious but the quantity was not enought to fill our stomach. The play was so-so but enjoyable nonetheless. We took lots of pictures with our friends so have a look at our fotopage.

I guess that's all for this week...bye!

My once-a-week post

I know I said I'll be busy with my write-up but blogging is too addictive. I can't wait to finish my PhD so that I can blog as much as I want. I'm kinda want to try and make my own skin but that will just have to wait. So I'm limiting myself to one post a week as a summary to my week and to write whatever that comes to mind. I've cut down my part-time job working days to one day a week so that has really helped me concentrate on my PhD work much better. Yesterday some girls and I had a get togehther to pray solat Hajat and have a Yasin reading for their upcoming final medic exams and my PhD write up deadline plus viva. It also coincided with Hari Asyura so we had the majlis after maghrib. I stayed back after Isya' with them all and we had our girly session of chit chatting and doing other girly stuff. I finally had my hair cut by Didi. Now my head feels much lighter and it'll be easier to maintain. Anyway, I really enjoyed myself last night coz it's been a while since I had a 'girls night out' - well 'a girls night in' to be more precise.

Next week will be just the same I guess. But I'm looking forward to Nottingham University's Malaysian Night play next Saturday. Shah and I will be going for the dinner and play. I just hope it'll be good coz if not it'll just be a waste of our £34. Well, I guess that's enough for today. Got to get back to work. But before I sign off, I just want to share with you guys that these past few years I've been very interested in home decor and interior design. So I'm really wishing I could go to this year's Daily Mail Ideal Home Show at Earls Court London next month. If any of you reading this know of any good websites on home decor then do leave me a message in my shoutbox.

Tara...

Trip to office

Spiralling down Posted by Hello

I went to my office today even though it was a Sunday. Had to run some simulations. Shah came along and we took some pics from the 15th floor of the Tower Building (where my office is). Do visit our fotopage to look at them... The pic above is of the staircase going down from the 15th floor.

Friends

Friends may not be able to pull you up BUT they will still think of ways not to let you fall Posted by Hello

I really like that message coz it very true. It's the best way of finding out if your so called 'friend' is really your 'true friend'. Sometimes I think to myself 'have I been a 'true friend' to my friends?' and I always think that maybe I'm not. I could always try harder to be a BETTER friend. Sometimes with our hectic daily life we always tend to forget keeping in touch with our best friends. I guess I must always remind myself to drop them a line or send them a text message every now and again. And to my friends who are reading this..'I'm sorry for not keping in touch regularly but always know that you guys are in my mind.'

P/S: We went to watch 'Meet the Fockers'. As we expected the movie was funny at times but I thought I would be laughing till I busted my seems but it just wasn't so. But I did enjoy the movie so money well spent. Little baby Jack was soooo cute and I wish Mr Jinx was my cat.

Cinema Cinema Cinema

It's already dark but Shah and I are still at the Uni. Well, we did go home for dinner but came back coz Shah needs to print the final copy of his. All he has left to do is send them for binding and then finally sending to the Registry office. That marks the end of Norshah Hafeez's PhD study journey. I'm not going to say anything about my work coz it'll just bore you guys to death. So what I just want to say is please, pretty please, pray that I will be able to submit my thesis before 1 April 2005 so that I can graduate together with my husband. If we do get to graduate together in July 2005 then it would certainly be one of the greatest moment of our life. Even so, just being able to both get a PhD is more than we could ever wish for.

This weekend we're thinking of catching a movie at the cinema. We really want to watch 'Meet The Fockers' coz we've been waiting for it to be realeased ever since the rumour about a sequeal to 'Meet The Parents' circulated. Another movie which we're also anticipating is 'Ocean's Twelve' which is due to release in the UK tomorrow. We thought the first movie was really cool. Plus no woman would ever be able to resist the temptation of watching Brad Pitt and George Clooney together on the big screen. Yours truly included. Luckily my husband knows that no man can ever replace him in my heart. Right Abang? For those people reading this in Msia, I know both those movies have been released in Msia ages ago and this is one drawback of living in the UK. Some movies get released here earlier but most of the time other people get to watch them before we do.

Sometimes Shah and I get addicted to watching movies be it at the cinema or on DVD. Once we start watching one movie we just can't stop. There was one time when we watched 3 movies at the cinema back-to-back. Well, almost back-to-back coz we went home to pray and then went back to the cinema to watch other movies. And I'm I've mentioned our DVD watching marathon during the previous Christmas holidays. 10 DVD's watched in a span of 10 days. I guess thinking back at it that might not have been such an unbelievable feat. I'm sure many of you out there are much more of a movie buff than Shah and I. I remember when I was in London I only went to the cinema probably once throughtout my 3 years stay there. That was because the ticket price was way to expensive for my meagre monthly allowance. Luckily here in Nottingham, and in most smaller cities, the cinema ticket price are far cheaper so people like me get to go the the cinema more often. If we catch the early bird shows (before 12pm) we only have to pay £2.95 instead of the normal £5 which is far less than £9 per movie in London. To save money some sneak into another theatre after the movie is over but I've never done it. I want to but I just don't feel good doing it.

Well, I guess I've babbled quite a bit today. I need to run over to my office and get some simulations going but I'll just wait for Abang to finish his printing. Meanwhile I'll just do more net surfing...

Mama's back home

The past weekend was a mixture of fun and work. On both mornings we went out to the city centre to find Abang a pair of shoes and a new handphone. He got both on Sunday plus a new PS2 game and the final book in the Dan Brown collection which we didn’t have. So you can say that we’re now die-hard fans of Dan Brown. Speaking of which this Thursday there will be a documentary on Channel 4 about the truth of Dan Brown’s ‘The Da Vinci Code’. We’ll certainly be watching it. Lately we’ve been watching lots of documentaries. We’ve watched two shows on Einstein regarding his Theory of Everything and the famous equation E=mc2. I think both Shah and I are intrigued at the geniusness (if there is such a word) of Einstein and how he came up with three of his greatest theories all in the same year. I wish I were even half as intelligent as him. If I were than I would have been able to finish my PhD ages ago. I’m still writing up and it seems as though it’s taking forever. Especially when you have to plot graphs nicely and place them neatly in the Word document. I really need to speed up and try not be too meticulous in my work.

I called home yesterday coz Mama, Auntie and Uncle Yunus had just arrived home from Mecca. They went there to perform their pilgrimage (Hajj) to the Islamic Holy City of Mecca and alhamdulillah they arrived home safely. According to Mama everything went well. I’m glad it all went fine for them and I wish when Shah and I do go for our Hajj we too will be able to go through it with no major hiccups.
