Greetings

I pray that all our ibadah during the month of Ramadhan is accepted by Allah. Hopefully we'll get to see Ramadhan again next year, insyaAllah. In the mean time enjoy your Eid where ever you may be.

Raya lagi seminggu

I've been sick since yesterday afternoon and it has just gotten worse today. My throat feels like it is lined with sandpaper and I it's very difficult to swallow even my saliva. My nose is blocked and there is only one position I can sit in such that i can breath properly. So since I can only sit in such a way (lying my left shoulder on to the chairback with my head slightly tilted to the left) there is not much that I can do. I am typing this entry with the keyboard half placed on my lap and half on the table. I am in no mood to do any reading for notes preperation so I'm blogging.

Next week will be Eid or Hari Raya. If we were back in Nottingham I will be making plans like when to go buy the chicken/food and what to cook. This year since we'll be spending our first Eid in Malaysia since ages (well 7 yrs is not really ages..) with family, everything is taken care of by the mums (my mum and Shah's mum la). So this year my sister and I made cookies. Last weekend we made 2 types, choclate chip and honey snaps cornflakes. This weekend we'll be making 2 more (3 if my mother has her way). We'll be making biskut suji (semolina) and mazola. And if we have time we'll also try and make biskut arab which mama keeps on mentioning. So at least I did something for raya. No home made jam tarts because it's all readily available to buy. I only made them once about 3 years ago because we were far far away from Malaysia and I so wanted to eat lots and lots of jam tarts.

While we're on the topic of Raya, my baju raya is ready. Mama will go pick them up from the tailor today. It's been a while since I sent my own baju raya to the tailor. Last year I just wore recycled baju from a few years back. Ans the year before I just wore one of the baju kebaya I madefor our wedding celebrations. But this year Abang has no baju melayu baru. He doesn't want any since he only ever wears it during raya time. Anyway, next year I'll make sure he has a new baju.

I don't know how raya will be this year. If in the UK we'll be spending raya with friends. Shah and will go to solat raya early and meet up with friends there. Then go to one designated house and eat potluck food. Afterwards we'll start making rounds to other postgrad houses to visit and eat more food.

This year we'll spend the first day in PJ with my mum, abah and Danial (my brother). It think it wil be a bit quiet compared to the 10-15 friends we usually spend Eid with in Nottingham. But being with family is different. It'll be a more emotional experienceI hope. Although I'm expecting it to be a bit awkward. I don't know what to expect since I can't remember how Raya in PJ is like. I don't think I've ever experienced it or maybe I did once but I vaguely remember how it was. When I was smaller, I usually spend raya in mama's kampung in Perak (even when mama and abah stayed in PJ) or spend raya with my grandparents (father's side) and my father's family (maybe I never mentioned this but my mum and dad seperated when I was 7 yrs old). But that was all ages ago. Whatever it is I'm hoping this Eid will be a good one.

On the second day of Raya Shah and I will leave early and make our way up north to Perlis. We're hoping to drop by mama's kampung in Perak. Since we got married, I've spent raya with Shah's family once in Nottingham. I'm looking forward to seeing how Shah's family spends rya back in Perlis. We'll be there until the following Monday (7/11/05) and head back to PJ on Tuesday. Then we'll have a rest on Wednesday before starting work again. Although we won't actually be resting that Wednesday coz we have to move more stuff into our rented apartment and amke it liveable cause we'll be living there from that week onwards.

Ok, I've got to stop now. My blocked nose has returned. Some how blogging helped it go away for a while as I got very comfortable blogging so much so that I moved away from the blocked-nose-cure-seating-poistion. So I've got to get back into that ackward position and try to clear my nose again. I hope all you out there have a good Eid and have a good long holiday if you're in Malaysia.

Selamat Hari Raya from me and Maaf Zahir Batin!

His birthday was yesterday..

It was Shah's birthday yesterday!

Happy 26th birthday my sayang...
I wish that Allah will grant you good health and a good year...
insyaAllah..

Mama got Shah a chocolate cake from Secrtet Recipe and last night Mama, Abah, Alia, Danial, Shah and I finished half of it. The cake was delicious and I can't wait to have another piece tonight. I took some photos of the birthday boy and the cake but I've yet to transfer them onto the computer.

What did I get Shah for his present? Nothing...yet! I'm planning on getting him a handphone. I just need to find the time to go out to the shops and buy one. So Abang, please be patient ok? I will get you the present soon.

Well Farah, I've done it even though it took me ages to come up with all the answers.

This and that..

Let me take a minute to hoover up all the dust that has been gathering here. I keep telling myself I need to put in an entry but I always fail to do so. Anyway, as a new month has started I might as well write something here.

Before I forget, tomorrow is the start of Ramadhan. So to all Muslims, Happy Ramadhan and may all of us make full use of this blessed time to peform lots of ibadah. This is a reminder to myself too. I hope I can do lots of Tarawih prayers and read more of the Quran throughout this month. This Ramadhan will be the first fasting month (after 7 years) spent in Malaysia for both Shah and I. I just hope we'll be able to fast in the hot and humid weather. Anyway, we did a trial run on a Monday a few weeks back and it left us feeling drained and a wee bit weak at the end of the day. But I'm pretty sure after the first week we'll be OK. Both of us can't wait to hit the Ramadhan Food Market but we have to keep a sane mind when we get there and not go overboard buying too much food for iftar which will just end up being eaten by the dustbin. Plus I have too try and loose some weight this fasting month because ever since I got back from Malaysia I have gained 2kg in weight which has been the reason why I keep getting comments (that I rather not hear of at all) from relatives whom I haven't seen for ages.

Anyway, aside from the weight issue, I'm now a full fledged career woman ever since I received my first paycheck. I don't know what I'll treat myself too with the newly earned money. All I know is that what ever I get as a treat will be something not too expensive considering all the expenditure we'll be having to make due to the move. Yup, we're in the midst of moving house albeit at a very slow pace. We've chosen the apartment I mentioned in my previous post and since it is unfirnished we've got lots of things to buy. On the top of the list is a bed (or just mattress for now), a fridge freezer and a washing machine. Lst weekend I went to Giant (a superstore) to get loads of household stuff and cleaning products that I'll need to make the apartment spik and span for us to live in. Now, the question is when will I start the cleaning?Truthfully speaking, dunno yet. It'll probably be this weekend. Or if we can get a matress then we might just stay over for a night and do all the cleaning after work. Whatever happens, it'll have to be soon because it'll be too tiring having to battle the traffic to get home during Ramadhan.

On the work front, I finally got a PC three weeks after starting work. Well better late than never as they say. So since I got the PC, I have made a start on the lecture notes for the lectures I'll be giving next semester (starts end of November). It's been finalised that I'll be teaching Electrical Machines and Drives and it looks as though I'll be having slightly less than 120 students in total. Apart from writing up the notes (at a very slow moving pace mind you), I've been sitting in on the remaining lectures this semester of the subject I'll be teaching next semester (you get me?). It's more or less for me the get a feel of how the lecture environment is here in Uniten and to refresh myself on the subject. As of yet I'm not feeling too nervous about actually giving the lectures. I am now more occupied with the thought that my notes are not too informative and that the student wil have trouble understanding them. That's why the note-writing progress is so slow.

Well, I just hope I'll be able to finish most of the notes and start thinking of what to do during the tutorial sessions while at the same time start cleaning the new apartment, buy stuff to make the apartment liveable and bake cookies for Eid and go to as many Tarawih prayers as possible and..and.... God help me, there's so much things to do!
