Langkawi was Great! - Part I

We're back from our first holiday this year. One down and nother to go in June. Anyway, our trip to Langkawi was excellent. Our main aim was to bring Miasarah to the Under*water World, bring her swimming in the pool and to the beach and ride on the Cable Car. We managed to do all that and squezzed time to go to Makam Mahsuri, have lunch at The Loaf Bistro, shopping at Ida*man Suri and Hj Is*mail Group, Black Sand Beach, eat lots of ikan bakar, eat laksa and cendol pulut at Laksa Power which is literally beside the airport runway (we even managed to see a MAS airplane land just before we arrived at Laksa Power) and drive around the whole island. Well, let me write in detaile what we did throughout the 4 days 3 night stay..

Day 1: Sunday 19 April
We took the 11:45 MAS flight to Langkawi from KLIA and was greeted at Langkawi Airport by Shah's mom and dad at around 1 pm. We immediately drove to Kon*do Is*tana where we booked a three room apartment. The apartment was not bad. It is situated in Kuah and even though it looks quite run down but the apartment is very clean and comfortable. All rooms are fully airconditioned including the living/dining area. So after freshining up and making prayers, we headed to Langkawi Fair for lunch and shopping for basic stuff like mineral water, bread and stuff to sustain us for the stay. After that we drove around the island in the To*yota Inno*va which we rented. We headed towards Tanjung Rhu and we stopped at the beach which was beautiful with white sands. I didn't go down as Maisarah was asleep while everyone else went to look at the beach and Shah with his dad enquired on the Mangrove Tour. Shah's brother recommended that we go on the tour which included a ride on a bat along the mangrove and into a cave with a stop to feed the eagles. But we decided not to go as Maisarah is still quite small. After Tanjung Rhu, we headed towards Ulu Melaka and stopped at Makam Mahsuri. My mom has never been to Langkawi so we thought it would be nice to give her a piece of Langkawi history by visiting Mahsuri's tomb. After that, we headed back to the Apartment to rest before going out to dinner after Maghrib. We had dinner at Wan Thai Restaurant and it was supperb although the service was quite slow.

Day 2: Monday 20 April
We headed to Pantai Kok/Burau Bay to go ride the Cable Car. We arrived at the Oriental Village where the Cable Car base station was at around 10 am. However, due to the rain fall earlier in the morning, there were lits of clouds and mist at the peak out Gunung Mat Chinchang. So the ride was delayed. We spent the morning walking around the Oriental Village where Maisarah got to see deers and play with rabbits. Maisarah was surrounded by rabiits and she was so happy. She touched them and even sat down on the dground to play with them. That got me shrieking and moving a swift as lightining to pick her up as I didn't want her get her pants dirty but I was too slow. Anyway, after Maisarah was done with the rabbits, we headed to the shops at the village to shop. That was when Shah's mom saw that the cable cars were moving up the mountain. So Shah, his dad, Maisarah and myself quickly bought tickets and got on. I was scared when we were queing to get on the car but much to my surprise I wasn't that scared once we were moving up hill. Maybe because I sat overlooking the view with the hill/mountain behind me. I'm glad I got on as the view was breathtaking! The ride was also very fast. The cable car travels at 3 metres/second. We reached the top which was 710 metres high but there was mist surrounding the top so we could see much of the view. So we quickly headed down.

Next we went for lunch at The Loaf Bistro. Even though it is mainly a bakery with lits of bread an pastry selection there was also a good selection of western quisine such as sandwiches, burgers, main course and some asian food. I had lamb chop, Shah had tuuna sanwich while my mom and mom-in-law had the open bread with breaded prawn sandwich. I must say that my lam chop was delicious but the portion was rather small. The most delicous food we ordered was the breaded prawn sandwich. The portion was huge and the prawn was as big as the bread which was like a burger bun. Maisarah ate bread which was shaped like a babies face and had chocolate rice as hair. She seemed to love it and even I liked it. It tasted like butter! We then packed some more bread and cheesecakes placed in cups (like cupcakes) home. The cakes were yummy. I think I will go visit their KL branch soon to have the cakes.

After lunch, we headed to the apartment for prayers and some rest. At around 4pm, we went to the Underwater World. Maisarah had lots of fun lokking at the fishes, penguins and two seals. However, when we were there the penguins were not swimming so we couldn't see them swim above out heads when we walked in the tunnel underneath their display. There was an enourmous garoupa (spelling??) fish on display but Maisara was scared of it. Unfortunately, the Underwater world no longer has big shraks on display. But all in all, it was quite interesting. After that, we went shopping at the nearby shops. We mostly bought chocolates, all kinds of it! I've been eating chocolates non stop and it is not helping the toothache that I have been experiencing ever since I arrived in Langkawi.

We ended the day by playing at the Cenang beach and having dinner there. Maisarah had lots of fun playing in the water. She cried a bit when we left the beach for dinner. We had dinner at Hj Ram*li's Restaurant at Cenang. We had ikan and sotong bakar with ikan tiga rasa, udang goreng tepung and mixed vegetables. It was certainly a scruptious dinner and a perfect end for a fun-filled day.

I think I'll stop here for now. This post is getting too long. I'll continue with Day 3 and Day 4 of our trip in the next entry.

p/s: pictures have not been downloaded from the camera. I'll post them up later.
