Updates

It's Friday lunch time and I am at Shah's office using his PC. Unfortunately, my PC has not been delivered to me by the IT staff here. So I've got to come to Shah's office to check my emails (plus surf the net when he's gone). I just hope I will get my own PC soon. At the moment work has been not so interesting. I've got to start drafting the lecture notes for my letures next December but I can't due to the lack of a thing called 'the PC'. Hence, I've been reading writing the notes on paper and at times I can be fpound reading a novel, which I have finished yesterday. So I decided not to start on a new novel for if I were to do so then I will not get any work done. Plus I feel slightly uncomfortable of using office hours for my own pleasure. Notice the word 'slightly' since there are times when I prefer to surf the net or do some other more interesting stuff during office hours.

On the quest to find a rented place for us, we've looked at a double storey house in Bangi and a 3 bedroom apartment at Seri Kembangan. We have decided the both of us really like the apartment we saw and will inform the owner today that we're going to rent it. As of 1:50pm, we have yet to inform the owner. I'm waiting for Shah to get back and we'll call the owner. I hope we're not too late.

OK...Shah is back and I need to stop now. Will write again soon.

New experiences

Last Thursday Shah and I started our first day at work. We had lots of paperwork to fill and had to do our medical check-up. We are given our own rooms so later int he day we just waited in my room for 5pm to arrive so that we could punch out and go home. Today is our 4th day at work and we still have nothing much to do. It's official that both Shah and I will have to lecture next semester (Nov '05-Mac'06). He'll be teaching Numerical Methods whilst I'll be lecturing the Electrical Machines and Drives subject. I've just got the syllabus this morning, so I've got to refresh myself on DC motors and synchronous machines. Every lecturer on this subject will have to make their own notes, so I've got to start writing them up soon. I guess that will be what I'll be doing at the office from now on.

Something else is new. Our car has arrived!! It was driven to PJ from Alor Setar by Shah's dad. I've personally never drove the car yet but riding in it is nice. I'll have to start driving it soon because I pity Shah having to drive every day a distance of 60km in total (30 mins each way if there is no traffic jam). If we each drive one way of the PJ-UNITEN-PJ journey, then we wont be too tired at the end of the day. Our search for rented accommodation has not properly kicked off. We've been told that the staff quarters in the University campus has no vacancies. But there is still a chance of us being able to stay within the campus if I decide to become a residential fellow in one of the halls of residence for female students. There are many plus sides to doing that:

1. Nothing to pay for accommodation...it's true..zilch. All the bills are paid for by the University.
2. There'll be fast internet access and most importantly it'll be FREE!
3. We can wake up later then currently as the office will be minutes away.
4. They have a nursery on campus if and when Shah and I have a baby of our own.

In short we'll be saving alot. However, the minus side to it is that I'll have to deal with student affairs at the halls of residence. I hope it won't be too bad because the pros do outweigh the cons. So tomorrow, Shah and I will pay a visit to the Accommodation Office and enquire aboyut the possibility. I hope they will let us view one of the residential fellows' apartments. and I'll have to chat with one of my colleagues and try and find out how it is like to be a residential fellow.

Well, I've got to stop now. I must trun in early for the night because I've got to wake up early in the morning in order for Shah and I to arrive at the office at 8am.
